In their words

Real reasons real lads keep coming back.

  • My name is Pete and I have been a member of Talk-Hub for about three years now. To be honest, joining was one of the best decisions I have made.

When with the lads, I know that I can talk about anything I need to discuss at the time, whether something serious to me or something more lighthearted. It does not matter as I know that I will not be judged, just listened to and supported. You cannot put a price on this - it is a fantastic and essential initiative.

On top of this, Jay and Craig have been able to give members the option of taking part in a number of sports, meeting up for a local walk to chat, or joining the group for a historical city tour combined with a sociable lunch once the walk has finished. I cannot thank these guys enough for setting all of this up. It has been a particularly tough year for me health-wise and Talk-Hub has always been there to support.

  • I joined TalkHub because I wanted to get out, meet people and do something positive for myself, and I'm really glad I did.

The monthly walks have become something I genuinely look forward to. There's something about getting out in the fresh air, having a bit of a chat and walking alongside people who you might have only just met that makes a real difference. You don't feel judged, and you don't have to be anything other than yourself.

I've also been lucky enough to take part in some great activities, including Go Ape at Delamere Forest. It was great fun, but what stood out to me most was the people and the atmosphere. Everyone is made to feel welcome, whether you've been coming for ages or it's your first time.

For me, TalkHub has become more than just a monthly walk or an activity. It gives me something to look forward to, gets me out of the house, gets me meeting new people and gives me a chance to switch off from everyday life for a while.

Sometimes just knowing there are people there who will welcome you and have a chat can make a bigger difference than you realise.

I'm really glad I found TalkHub, and I'd encourage any man who is looking for some company, wants to get out more, or is simply looking for something positive to be part of, to give it a go.

Common questions

No pressure, but here are a few things lads often ask before their first session.

I don't know anyone. Can I still come?

Absolutely. Most lads turn up on their own the first time. One of our volunteers will be on hand to welcome you to the group. You can join in as much or as little as you like.

Do I need a high level of fitness or ability?

Not at all. All abilities and ages (18+) are welcome. There are men of all abilities and fitness levels in the group.

What should I bring?

Something comfy to wear for the activity, a bottle of water, and the right footwear for football (moulded studs or boots) on the 4G pitches.

What does it cost?

£3 per session for football and £2 per session for boxing. Walk & talks are free. Pay on the day by cash or bank transfer, or sign up to our £10 monthly membership for unlimited sessions.

Is this a therapy group where I can get professional support?

No. This is a peer support group where you can share with the other guys if you feel comfortable doing so. If you're in crisis, our volunteers can signpost you to professional help and support services.

Need to talk now?

TalkHub is about connection, not crisis support. If things feel too much right now, please reach out to one of these, any time, day or night. If it's an emergency, call 999.
